A health expert believes that training is a major reason behind Khamzat Chimaev’s demise.
Khamzat Chimaev had several diseases throughout his job. It started in 2020, when he first suffered from COVID-19. The Chechen athlete announced his decision to quit the sport but made a decision to return. But the 2024 season hasn’t started as he had hoped. In his first game of the year, the fighter had to withdraw due to an illness. What is the reason he seems to suffer from this illness so often? Expert in health Sven Koch feels it has something to do with excessive training. Chimaev is famous for his intensive training routines, but it appears that his body isn’t prepared to take on the challenge.
Koch declared, “The line between overreaching and over-training can be blurred. Overreaching creates a burden that causes a decrease in performance. It can take several days to weeks to recover. Insufficient rest and constant overtraining could lead to what is known as “overtraining syndrome.” Chimaev further stated, “Over-training is particularly common in athletes who train for up to 4-6 hours per day, every day of the week or for several months without adequate time off.” Chimaev has fought in two fights at the same time, which has resulted in a negative impact on his health.
