Self-Proclaimed Satoshi Craig Wright Referred to UK Prosecutors for Alleged Perjury

Craig Wright, the Australian who has been claiming for years to be Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto, has been referred by the Crown Prosecution Services (CPS) British High Court Judge James Mellor for a possible perjury case following a lawsuit from The Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA) and new court documents show.

So Called Satoshi Referred To Crown Prosecution Services For Alleged Perjury

The following day, Mellor made an order to refer the matter to CPS (the principal prosecutorial agency in England as well as Wales) following a ruling in favour of the CPS ruling that Wright did not belong to the pseudonymous crypto-founder at the time of May.

“In advancing his false claim to be Satoshi Nakamoto, Dr. Wright committed ‘a most serious abuse’ of the process of the courts of the U.K., Norway, and the U.S.A.,” Mellor declared. “If what happened in this case does not warrant referral, it is difficult to envisage a case that would.”

The long legal battle was initiated when Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA), a collection of crypto-related companies, was sued by Wright in 2021 over his long-standing assertion that he was the creator of Bitcoin, which is a thought that is contrary to Bitcoin’s unique decentralized classification.

Wright’s claims are “brazen and elaborate,” Mellor’s ruling will legally block any claims of authorship that the businessman has proclaimed throughout the years.

“The Court found that Dr Wright ‘lied to the Court extensively and repeatedly’ in his evidence and that he attempted to create a false narrative by forging documents ‘on a grand scale” and present them as evidence'” the disclaimer reads in the second section. “Overall, “all his lies and fake documents supported his most blatant lie which was his claim that he was Satoshi Nakamoto.’

COPA Calls Craig Wright Ruling A Win For Developers

The consequences of Mellor’s ruling also require Wright to add a disclaimer on his website informing the public that he’s not the elusive person responsible for this Bitcoin White Paper, whose identity has not been identified.

“This decision is a win for developers, for the entire open source community, and for the truth,” a COPA spokesperson told reporters shortly after the decision. “For more than eight years over the past eighteen years. Wright and his financial backers have repeatedly lied about his real identity as Satoshi Nakamoto and have used the lie to intimidate developers within the Bitcoin community. This is now over with thanks to the court’s decision in favor of Craig Wright is not Satoshi Nakamoto.”

Wright was also ordered to put up the mandated disclaimer on the X account, but at the moment of writing, Wright has apparently not yet done so.
