FC Barcelona has brought its “Masterpiece” NFT collection into the Moco Museum in its home city of Barcelona. The collection includes 10 NFTs with audiovisual material that pays tribute to famous moments and personalities that have shaped the club’s past.
Celebrating Legends Through Digital Art
The heart of the exhibition is two of the most important items from the Masterpiece collection. The first, called In A Way, Immortal, immortalizes Johan Cruyff’s famous goal at Atletico Madrid on the 22nd of December 1973. The NFT was sold for a staggering $693,000 in the live auction held in Sotheby’s located in New York in 2022.
The NFT entitled “In a Way, Immortal,” which is a tribute to the words of Johan Cruyff, will be presented on a large display within the Moco Museum‘s main digital art space beginning today. This room will also include one of his many inspirational quotes displayed on the walls: “It’s better to go down with your own vision than with someone else’s.”
A 30-piece orchestra plays an original score that is accompanied by the visual spectacle, enhanced by real music coming from Spotify Camp Nou, as well as cheers by FC Barcelona fans.
The other included NFT Empowerment, which is a tribute to the current Barca footballer Alexia Putellas and her pivotal role in the Champions League semi-final against Wolfsburg. Additionally, the piece is a celebration of Putellas’ contributions to advancing women’s sport and encouraging gender equality, auctioning for $300,231.36 in the OpenSea auction.
Additionally, screens across the stadium show images that praise Putellas’s personality and the team’s commitment to women’s football. They also display the famous phrase of The two-time Ballon d’Or champion: “Football has no gender.”

Barcelona NFT: A Fusion of History and Innovation
The exhibit is available from the 25th of April until the 25th of June in 2024. It will coincide with the date of Cruyff’s birthday. The exhibition is a unique mix of historic reverence and contemporary digital technology, presenting visitors with an experience that reveals everything FC Barcelona has to offer in terms of cultural influence.
Lionel Logchies, founder of Moco Museum, commented on the collaboration, stating, “Through this collaboration we’re blessed to exhibit the digital works of legendary artists Johan Cruyff and Alexia Putellas. The collaboration combines the worlds of modern art and sports, bringing together the two worlds…It represents Moco’s values as a modern museum reflecting the voice of the younger generation.”
From the legendary goal of Cruyff’s to the leadership of Putellas both on and off the field, These NFTs honour individual accomplishments as well as the club’s larger contribution to the world. Through the display of these digital artefacts, FC Barcelona highlights its technological savvy and its dedication to the promotion of important cultural stories.
