Its official X account of Metallica was compromised by exploiters posting on the Solana token, dubbed METAL.
The Official X account of heavy metal group Metallica was compromised by hackers with an attack to advertise the Solana token using metal as a ticker.
Metallica’s team seems to have gained control over the account and has taken down all posts that reference the token.
Metallica’s X account first announced the token in a June 26 post and claimed it was developed in conjunction with Ticketmaster. The token was officially made available on the token deployment platform Solana, which is powered by a pump.fun.
Ticketmaster did not issue an announcement regarding the partnership and did not promptly respond to requests for clarification.

Metallica’s account has been linked to the fintech firm MoonPay, which was behind the token, but MoonPay chief Keith Grossman dismissed it in an X post, stating, “MoonPay does NOT support METAL.”
MoonPay later published in the X forum X, “If someone is offering you a METAL token, they are not the master of puppets — they’re the master of scams!” This was in reference to the band’s 1986 hit record and hit single.
A string of subsequent posts that appeared to endeavour to attract customers claimed that they could use METAL tokens in order to redeem exclusive items like “free concert tickets,” customized gaming consoles, and other products.
One post even said that the token would come with stake benefits.

The worth of METAL’s token climbed to an initial peak of $3.37 million just 20 minutes after the token was first launched, as per Dexscreener information.

The METAL coin dropped to market capitalization just three hours after reaching its high.
The price of the token has dropped almost 100% from its peak, which it reached shortly after Metallica’s account had shared the token.
It’s not clear how Metallica’s account was hacked. The management team couldn’t be immediately reached for comment.
